SVA Mission Statement
The Stratfield Village Association (SVA) facilitates community inclusiveness, sustainability, awareness, investment, and involvement to promote a safe, vibrant neighborhood.
The primary goals of the SVA are to:
- Build interest of residents in the welfare of the neighborhood
- Support the improvement of the neighborhood
- Create awareness of issues that affect all residents of the neighborhood
- Encourage participation of residents in neighborhood gatherings and initiatives
- Represent the neighborhood and its residents in the wider Fairfield community

Tom Barnouw – Tom grew up in Katonah, NY and moved from Seattle to the Stratfield area with his family 13 years ago. As a small business owner himself, he is excited to work with Stratfield’s local stores and residents in an effort to continue the growth and prosperity of these businesses in the SVA area. Along with his wife, he is the co-founder of Planet Fuel Beverage Company and is an IT Director at WWE in Stamford. He is an avid tennis and paddle-tennis player and coaches the Ludlowe/Warde High School Ultimate Frisbee team.
Geri Derbyshire – A native of California, Geri has lived on the east coast with her husband Tony since 1994. They moved to Fairfield in 2000, and to Stratfield Village in 2005 with their daughter Ava, a sophomore at Warde High School. Currently working in University Advancement at Fairfield University, Geri has over 20 years of experience in non-profit and higher education fundraising and leadership. Having been raised in a small farming town, Geri appreciates the strong sense of community of the Stratfield neighborhood. She looks forward to helping build the Stratfield community and improving the neighborhood by working with residents and the Stratfield Village Association.
Joel Green: Mr. Green held elected office as a five-term member of the Representative Town Meeting of the Town of Fairfield from 1997 through 2007 and was elected and served as Moderator for three terms from 2001 through 2007. Mr. Green concentrates his practice in general civil and commercial litigation and land use matters. With more than thirty five years of experience, Mr. Green has successfully pursued and defended hundreds of cases on behalf of individual and corporate clients at both the trial and appellate level. Most recently, Mr. Green was elected to the Board of Directors of Fairfield County’s Community Foundation and the Bridgeport Field of Dreams Foundation.
Liz Kohm: Liz grew up in Moorestown, NJ and moved from New York City to Fairfield with her family in 2010. Liz and her husband, Shannon, were drawn to the walkability, sense of community, and charm of the homes in the Stratfield Village neighborhood. After moving into their own historic home and finding receipts from the 1800s for horse wagons and sleighs in their attic, Liz began to research the history of their house which led to a compilation of the history of several homes in the area. Liz looks forward to continuing to research and compile a historical record of the Stratfield Village neighborhood. Liz is a 4th and 5th grade special education teacher in the South Bronx and her sons both attend Tomlinson Middle School.
James McCusker: (Co-President) James is a Fairfield County native who moved to Stratfield Village in 2005 and was introduced to the SVA when it helped to establish special neighborhood zoning regulations to keep large chain stores from moving into the Four Corners area of the Village. As long-time supporter of community activism, James hopes to use his experience in public affairs, government relations and public relations to help the SVA bring together the entire Stratfield Village community as well as the resources of public and private organizations and businesses to help preserve and improve Stratfield Village. James is a former network television Producer who now works in Public Relations and resides in Stratfield Village with his wife Hilary and daughter Madeline who attends Stratfield Elementary School.
Dylan O’Connor: (Co-President) Dylan is a lifelong Fairfield resident and has fond memories of playing Jr. Babe Ruth baseball for S&S Auto Parts at Owen Fish. He would occasionally, against his parents wishes, walk down to the Stratfield Market to buy some cavity-inducing sweet tarts. His motivation for being a part of this group is restoring that charm back to the Stratfield Village. He lives in the Village with his beautiful wife, Kate, and their three spirited and spunky kids – Phoebe, Finn, and Meryl.
Joe Sousa: Joe is a CT native and has been a Fairfield resident living in the Stratfield neighborhood since 2009. Joe is a registered Certified Public Accountant and has over ten years of experience at PwC in the accounting industry, focusing on delivering assurance services for various clients in the financial services sector. As a board member, Joe will leverage his work experience to help manage funds raised by the SVA and local residents to improve the neighborhood and surrounding community.
Frank Tavolacci: Frank grew up in Weston, Ct, graduated from Fairfield University and has resided in Stratfield since 2002. He lives with his wife Nancy and their 3 children; all of whom attend/attended Fairfield Public Schools. Frank would like to see the SVA promote initiatives that increase property values, set standards for the beautification of the Four Corners and surrounding area, support fundraising activities for community based improvements and initiatives, and promote enhancements to both the physical and educational aspects of our schools. As a board member of the SVA, Frank will look to work with community, civic, business and government leaders to support the aspirations of the ‘Village’ and its residents as a whole.
Meghan Ward: Meghan grew up in the Stratfield neighborhood before moving to Easton when she was 12. With fond memories of the summer camps at Lincoln Park and biking with friends around the neighborhood she knew this is where she wanted to raise her family. After living in the North Stratfield neighborhood for 11 years, Meghan and her husband decided to move closer to the neighborhood they both grew up in. They are on their third home and renovation in the Stratfield area. Meghan hopes that her own children can make new memories similar to those she has of sitting in the window of Eduardo’s pizza sharing a slice with friends. She is looking forward to serving on the Stratfield Village board to continue the good work of many neighbors. Meghan has been involved in education for almost 2 decades serving as a high school teacher, teacher leader and various administrative positions. Meghan is currently Assistant Principal at Staples High School in Westport.
Kurt Wayne: Kurt was born and raised in Norwalk and moved to Fairfield in high school. He is a registered Architect with over twenty years of experience with commercial, education, and residential projects, and currently works in NYC for Studios Architecture. Kurt lives near the four corners with his wife Kara, a public school teacher at Fairfield Woods Middle School, and their two children. Drawn to the area for its storybook charm – proximity to a park, village shops, schools, churches, and attractive neighborhoods – Kurt looks to enhance the character of the community as it continues to evolve.
